I had forgotten about this blog until a new comment alert hit my inbox. I have no idea why the www still burps this up, but it's been nice to re-read. Here I am, 11 years later ...
Post LBS, I stayed in London and worked for a big investment bank, the Corporate Finance end of it, for eight years. The first two years I learned a lot, but was unhappy (as were many 2008-10). Since then all's been well. I first moved into a team where I liked the people and then found autonomy, a key to happiness, because the job was a good fit.
I recently left banking and started as head of international M&A for a listed tech company. So far so good. No downsides that I can see. The previous steps were required to get here but I think I would be happy either way - I try to remember to keep the happiness bar as low as possible.
